Fecues - introduced (*Festuca species)

• Flowers are in (usually contracted) branched sprays (i.e. panicles)
• the spikelets have more than three florets
• the lemma apex is acute (pointed); teeth if present are very small
• the lemmas are rounded on the back, at least on the lower part
• the lemmas are acute
• the glumes are keeled (v-shaped in cross section).
• the awns are usually shorter than the lemmas.

Tall Fescue *Festuca arundinacea . Typically the panicle is loose but narrow. The fresh leaves ar flat. Uncommon.

Red Fescue *Festuca rubra . Typically the panicle is loose but narrow. The leaf blades are tightly inrolled. Uncommon.
