Mitchell's Wattle - local native (Acacia mitchellii)

,

A small shrub. The leaves are divided into several leaflets. The leaves are much smaller than those of the other local fern-leaved wattles. The flower balls are on stalks from the leaf bases in spring and summer. The developing pods are held on the shrub for an extended period. Grows south of Castlemaine e.g. Fryers Ridge and Glenluce.

The small size, the true leaves with few leaflets, the flowers on stalks fom the leaf bases and the distinctive pods make this an easily recognised species.
