Rough Wattle - local native (Acacia aspera)

 

Family: Fabaceae (Pea family)

A 1-2 metre tall shrub. Leaves have a conspicuous central vein. The leaves are covered with short, stiff hairs so that the leaves are rough to touch. Flower balls grow from the leaf bases. Flowers in August and September. Widespread and common. South of Castlemaine plants may grow to two metres high.

Name: aspera: with a rough surface, referring to the leaves.
